Getting Started with Yahoo! Finance
To find information about an individual stock on Yahoo! go to www.Yahoo.com (opens in a new window or tab) and click on the Finance link on the main page in the list of major subjects to search. If you have a customized MyYahoo page, Add Content to add the Financial News and Portfolios.
On the first Yahoo Finance page, enter any stock ticker symbol in the box near the top and click GO. If you don’t know a ticker symbol, click on Symbol Lookup and type in the company's name for a lookup window Yahoo provides. You may use ticker WMT to see what the world’s largest retailer and largest single employer is doing. After clicking GO, you will arrive at the stocks Quotes & Info page. This is the page where the research begins.
The best place to start is to go to the right hand column and click on the Key Statistics page listed under "Company". Most of the information you need to find any danger signs are on this page. If you don't know anything about a company, click on Profile just above Key Statistics to see what the company makes and where their operations are.
Using Yahoo! Finance to Research a Company
You need to do your homework before buying any stock, even when you totally trust your resource. If you heard something great, it just means that it might be a good idea to start your own research. Always research the company before buying their stock.
Danger Signs are in the Company Key Statistics
First, look for a company's financial stability by reviewing the Danger Signs in Yahoo Finance Key Statistics to understand a company's risk and stock potential.
