My Favorite FREE Online Resources
My favorite FREE Internet Market Resources are a great place to begin. Learn how to use these free Internet Resources here. I use them most every day and you can too.
The first few are almost self-explanatory. Just remember that FREEquotes online are usually delated 15-20 minutes. That's usually plenty of time to make decisions unless you are in the futures or FOREX markets.
At the beginning of the day, the Upgrades and Downgrades will help you determine what could be of particular interest in that trading session. But don't forget to watch for breaking news.
During Quarterly Earnings Seasons (early January, April, July, and October), I watch the markets react, sometimes wildly, to WARNINGS just before the quarterly reports are due, and then to each company as it "comes in". Each MEETS or BEATS the expectations, or DISAPPOINTS. This is my idea of FUN, and often these are good times to move in or out of a stock position.
I recommend you learn to use Yahoo Stock Screener as you begin following the Markets. The Yahoo Stock Screener is a great tool to find stocks that fit the critera you select. With practice, this page can be very valuable!
You may also want to follow the Nasdaq HeatMaps, which graphically represent the 100 stocks in shades of red and green boxes. Red means the price has moved down and green means up. They will update throughout the trading day and show what is moving by the intensity of the color.
Nasdaq 100 Heatmap - The Nasdaq 100 are the 100 largest stocks (excluding the financial stocks) that trade on the Nasdaq. In other words, these are the big technology and biotech stocks.
Nasdaq 100 Pre-Market Heatmap shows how stocks are trading before the US market opens at 9:30AM Eastern.
ETF Heatmap graphically represents the Exchange Traded Funds in various industry sectors. When you move your mouse over a box, the specific ETF information is displayed.
Morning Star Mutual Fund Ratings gives you the star rating for mutual funds and a lot of other info too.
Gold Futures prices. Other commodity futures prices are also available here including oil/energy, livestock/meat, grain/oilseed, metals and stock indexes.
U.S. Bond Market overview of the interest rates currently paid on U.S. Treasuries.

I have trusted the Investors Business Daily since my early trading days. Before the Internet was around, I had my IBD delivered early every morning. Then I needed that information to make my daily trading decisions.
A lot has changed since then. Read about the online IBD and what it can do for you today.
Lately my morning newspaper is my.yahoo.com. It has been my browsers Home startup page for many years. I customized it to display the Market News I want to see first. I recommend this to everyone to get a timely on-line look at what is important in the Markets quickly, several times a day.
All the Yahoo! services I use are free. Yahoo! provides many more free services you can enjoy in your MyYahoo webpage. They also have paid services including merchant store management, marketing services, dating services, music and movie downloading, and other services you may want to try.
Of course, you may want the edge you can only get by reading the industry standard news, the Wall Street Journal. Many folks want the full printed newspaper delivered to their home or office.
Now you can also read the Wall Street Journal on-line. There is no better source for the complete financial news anywhere.
